Labor says youth welcome to fake ID
The State Labor Government made changes to the criminal law last night to exempt minors from prosecution for producing and using fake ID to access a range of adult services including:
Tattoos;
Body modifications like tongue splitting, branding and scarification;
Accessing R18+ material;
Entering bars and night clubs;
Using weapons at a firing range; and,
Marriage.
"On one hand Labor pretends to be protecting children. On the other they‟e saying „o right ahead, fake your ID‟," Shadow Attorney-General Stephen Wade said.
"From driving to using a firearm, this Labor Government is saying it‟ OK to lie about your age and use fake ID – in fact we‟l even make sure you‟e immune from prosecution.
"This is sending the wrong message to children. The Labor Government is effectively telling young people to ignore the law.
"The Labor Government is encouraging irresponsible behaviour and undermining the authority of parents.
"Premier-in-waiting Jay Weatherill must explain to South Australians whether this is an acceptable message to be sending to young people."
The changes even provide a defence to prosecution if a minor claims they were manufacturing, selling or supplying fake ID to other minors to access alcohol, tobacco and other adult services.
