Health portfolio scrutinised in Estimates today

Health Minister Jack Snelling will today appear in front of Budget Estimates.

In recent months the Health portfolio has been plagued by a series of scandals; delays to the NRAH open date, EPAS cost blowouts, a chemotherapy dosing bungle, patient record snooping scandal, a number of senior staff resignations and the looming shadow of Transforming Health.

“Transforming Health, Jack Snelling’s prescription to deal with fourteen years of Labor mismanagement of health, is not medicine; its poison,” said Shadow Minister for Health Stephen Wade.

“South Australians are sick and tired of the Weatherill Government’s secrecy regarding the ongoing delays and budget blow-outs associated with the nRAH.

“The hospital is being built with public money and the public have the right to know why the world’s most expensive hospital is likely to be a year late and at least $640 million over budget.

“Health Minister Jack Snelling is also dangerously isolated from the medical professionals, the public and his political allies with his plans to cut services at half of Adelaide’s public hospitals and close the Repat under his Transforming Health plan.

“There is now open revolt amongst doctors working in South Australia’s public hospitals as a consequence of the Health Minister’s plans to impose radical cuts across an already stretched system.”
