The State Liberals are calling on the Health Minister Jack Snelling to release the report into the failure of the back-up generator at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) during the state-wide blackout on the 28th of September.
“The Weatherill Government has had 61 days to complete its investigation into why the back-up generation at FMC failed putting patients at risk and leading in the loss of embryos,” said Shadow Minister for Health Stephen Wade.
“The couples who lost embryos at Flinders Fertility and the patients transferred out of FMC’s intensive care unit to Flinders Private Hospital deserve an explanation as to how such a catastrophic failure occurred.
“Indeed on the cusp of summer and the increased threat of power blackouts that brings all South Australians have the right to know why a major hospital was without back-up power when the mains power system went down.
“People need to be reassured this won’t happen again.
“SA Health CEO Vicki Kaminski has already told a Parliamentary Committee on October 10th that the failure of a fuel pump had been identified as part of the problem.
“Almost seven weeks later the Weatherill Government is still yet to release the report into what has been described as an absolute tragedy.
“It is simply not good enough for the Weatherill Government to sit on this report in the hope of minimising its political embarrassment.”
