The Premier Jay Weatherill must direct Minister Vlahos and Minister Snelling to open their office records to an independent forensic audit to identify all documentation relating to the Oakden scandal.
“Jay Weatherill needs to back his words with action. If he has confidence in his Ministers and they have nothing to hide in regards to the Oakden scandal the Government needs to open up the books,” said Shadow Minister for Health Stephen Wade.
“Until he does the stench of a cover-up will continue to linger over this disgraceful abuse of vulnerable South Australians.
“The fact is the Weatherill Government has form when it comes to has misleading the public about the extent of its knowledge about the abuse of vulnerable South Australians.
“The Debelle Inquiry into the scandal surrounding the sexual abuse of children at a western suburbs school found that Jay Weatherill’s Chief of Staff and Education Advisor were both aware of the rape of a child but didn’t inform the school community of the outrage.
“When Shannon McCoole’s sexual abuse of children in state care emerged the then Child Protection Minister Jennifer Rankine claimed there were no prior indications McCoole represented a threat to the children he abused.
“It subsequently emerged that there were multiple red flags concerning Shannon McCoole’s behavior.
“Minister Vlahos claims there was a culture of cover-up amongst the workers at Oakden.
“Minister Snelling has been less than forthcoming as to what he was told about conditions at Oakden when he was Mental Health Minister.”
“The Government needs to be open with the people of South Australia.”
